Maybe it is the type of wood? Not sure what to do next. This may be a stupid question, but could I have sanded it too smooth to accept a finish? Is it even possible? I sanded it down, cleaned it and applied a couple coats of India Ink letting it dry in between. Is speedball india ink non toxic Speedball. Tattoo ink is ideal, but India ink is more easily accessible and just as safe. India ink is super cheap, and you can buy tons of it at your local art supply store. It’s natural, carbon-based, and less likely to cause infection. The ink looked uneven but I thought that it was because it was still wet. Use India Ink A non-toxic ink, like India ink, would be your best bet. I intended to use it for a fruit bowl, so I didn't put a clear finish on top of the ink. Hi, I am hoping someone can tell me what went wrong, I used Speedball India Ink to refinish a wooden bowl (I purchased) sanded smooth,carved, and finished with India Ink. ![]()
